You never quite realize just how much noise that we manage to filter out as we go through our daily routine. Whether we’re at work, in traffic, having dinner, or just trying to relax at home, we’re constantly bombarded with noise, and don’t realize it until those times when we really need to be able to concentrate in silence. Some people are pretty good at working through just about any racket that they encounter, but we can all agree that a quiet workplace is typically more productive.

Today’s world is as unpredictable as ever. Long before we were thrust into a global health crisis, we already had plenty of things to worry about. Even though we’re all currently preoccupied with the pandemic and Covid compliance, we can’t forget the very real possibility that any business is subject to a random violent ambush by a heavily armed and highly motivated assailant at any time. Sometimes there are advance warning signs, but in most cases, no one ever saw it coming.

Even though most people are basically good, there are far too many instances involving heavily armed gunmen entering schools, churches, and other businesses and inflicting mass casualties before the police get a chance to respond. Sometimes they’re disgruntled employees, and sometimes they’re just people that are mad at the world. But the only thing that they really have in common is that they’re highly motivated, and they have the element of surprise.
