Homeowners and business owners are always at the mercy of the utility companies, and rate increases are the norm rather than the exception. Energy is now bought and sold on the open market as a commodity, and our rates go up constantly as a result of market conditions. The only alternative that we have to fight back is to find ways to reduce our energy consumption.
Seasonal weather extremes are a way of life throughout the world, and we pay dearly to stay comfortable. Unfortunately, the utility service costs continue to rise year after year. In many cases, we don’t find out that our rates have jumped up until after a major weather event. The utilities are all monopolies, and we don’t have the option of taking out business elsewhere.
