Maintenance Spotlight: #4 or Mill Finish Doors and Frames
At National Custom Hollow Metal, every door and frame that you order is custom-built by the most experienced craftsmen in the industry, and our products are as durable as they are attractive. In fact, we guarantee that your doors and frames will last the lifetime of your building.
Your doors and frames are practically maintenance-free, but they will have an occasional need for spot cleaning to remove light dirt, grease and debris. And if your doors and frames have a satin or etched finish, some small particles can get into the grain and give the steel the appearance of rust or discoloration. But the good news is that they are very easy to clean, and you can keep them looking as new as the day that they were delivered by following these easy procedures for your doors and frames with #4 or Mill Finish:
- For routine cleaning, you can use a mix of detergent or soap and water. Wipe down the doors and frames with a sponge or cotton cloth, rinse and wipe dry. If you have any hard water spots, you can wipe or rub them down with vinegar, rinse with water, and wipe dry.
- To restore the sheen of the metal, you can polish your doors and frames with stainless steel cleaner or glass cleaner. Be sure to wipe with a sponge or cloth in the same direction as the surface grain, and use light, steady pressure.
- If you have any stubborn spots, stains or light discolorations, you can use a mild abrasive cleanser. Apply with a sponge or cloth, rub lightly and carefully in the direction of the grain, rinse and dry. If you have any “rust like particles,” Noxon is effective, and can be found at most hardware stores.
Caution: Be careful not to use chlorinated chemicals or bleaching agents, and avoid using paper towels or other abrasive materials. And if you ever have any stubborn stains that you can’t remove on your own, be sure to give us a call for recommendations.
